Which president took the threat of terrorism more seriously? Bill Clinton or George Bush. Yes, you're correct, the answer is Bill Clinton. Was his administration's efforts perfect? No, they were just better then Bush.
The president who took bin Laden seriously By Joe Conason
The commission confirms Clinton's widely reported "obsession" with al-Qaida, describing in detail his efforts to raise international awareness, increase spending on counterterrorism and homeland security long before that phrase became fashionable, and to demand action by the nation's covert forces. Indeed, their report credits Clinton with ignoring a serious threat to his own safety to seek foreign assistance in the struggle against bin Laden.

then we have Dick and George between vacations.
"In May, President Bush announced that Vice President Cheney would himself lead an effort looking at preparations for managing a possible attack by weapons of mass destruction and at more general problems of national preparedness," the report says on page 204. (Remember that the comprehensive, bipartisan Hart-Rudman report on those issues had been published and ignored by the new administration a few months earlier.) "The next few months were mainly spent organizing the effort and bringing an admiral from the Sixth Fleet back to Washington to manage it. The Vice President's task force was just getting under way when the 9/11 attack occurred."

Remember all that doublespeak from Condi Rice about strategy and structure, maybe she should have sit down and spoon fed Bush the Hart-Rudman report, bot no they couldn't do that because Hart is a flaming leftie liberal and in Bushworld you don't want to pay attention to any findings that might protect america if they came from a liberal, even if he's a liberal hawk.

Another Swift boat veteran attacking Kerry. These guys may want to do something about their own character, before they start attacking Warrior John.
MMFA investigates: Who is Jerome Corsi, co-author of Swift Boat Vets attack book?
• Corsi on Islam: "a worthless, dangerous Satanic religion"

• Corsi on Catholicism: "Boy buggering in both Islam and Catholicism is okay with the Pope as long as it isn't reported by the liberal press"

• Corsi on Muslims: "RAGHEADS are Boy-Bumpers as clearly as they are Women-Haters -- it all goes together"

• Corsi on "John F*ing Commie Kerry": "After he married TerRAHsa, didn't John Kerry begin practicing Judiasm? He also has paternal grandparents that were Jewish. What religion is John Kerry?"

• Corsi on Senator "FAT HOG" Clinton: "Anybody ask why HELLary couldn't keep BJ Bill satisfied? Not lesbo or anything, is she?"

Why are wing-nuts so obsessed with sex and religion. I do think that they're justified in their fascination with BJ's as they've probably never had one. To them the BJ is a mysterious act and they simply envy The Big Dog for having one. Wingers would be much less tense if they'd just smoke a joint and and get their rocks off. And what's with the religious self-rightiousness, conservative were there to try and keep slavery as an institution, keep women from voting and owning property, and fighting against economic justice for poor whites. Corsi and his like minded brethen have more in common with the Taliban then Thomas Jefferson.

What do conservatives have against undercover agents that are risking their lives to make america safer. BushCo has at this point exposed the identity of two. via Professor Juan Cole
So one scenario goes like this. Bush gets the reports that Eisa al-Hindi had been casing the financial institutions, and there was an update as recently as January 2004 in the al-Qaeda file. So this could be a live operation. If Bush doesn't announce it, and al-Qaeda did strike the institutions, then the fact that he knew of the plot beforehand would sink him if it came out (and it would) before the election. So he has to announce the plot. But if he announces it, people are going to suspect that he is wagging the dog and trying to shore up his popularity by playing the terrorism card. So he has to be able to give a credible account of how he got the information. So when the press is skeptical and critical, he decides to give up Khan so as to strengthen his case. In this scenario, he or someone in his immediate circle decides that a mere double agent inside al-Qaeda can be sacrificed if it helps Bush get reelected in the short term.

On the other hand, sheer stupidity cannot be underestimated as an explanatory device in Washington politics

I'm not going to read the explanations of Instacracker or his sheepish clones, I'd probably start laughing so hard I'll hurt myself. Besides they're probably very busy checking Sandy Bergers shorts for a plan to get Preznit NOBrains re-elected.

Is BushCo playing politics with the terrorists alerts? If not there are some mind boggling coincidences occurring..via JuliusBlog Timeline of Terror Alerts
May 22, 2002 -- Bush goes on the record as opposing the formation of an independent commission to look into why 9/11 happened.

Spin O'Reilly the cowardly anti-american pundit employed at the Faux network is at it again.
O'Reilly denounced Dem "character assassins" -- then smeared Dems with baseless charge of illegal funding
The truth is that federal election and tax law explicitly forbids 527s from sharing funds or coordinating operations with political parties, as The Washington Post explained on March 10. O'Reilly produced no evidence to support his assertion that the Democratic Party has illegally "hired" such groups to attack Bush or his suggestion that, in contrast with radio host Rush Limbaugh, pro-Democratic 527s are "getting checks from" the DNC. Indeed, such illegal funding is highly unlikely given the intense legal scrutiny by Republican attorneys and campaign finance watchdog groups. O'Reilly also neglected to mention that 527s aligned with Republicans are also raising money, as the Post reported.

Gee the washed up old Spin-boy is not only a huge hypocrite, but seems to know little about the law. Not surprising, Spin has made a career out of opening his mouth without engaging his brain. The Kool-Aid Krowd of anti-liberty wing-nuts sits transfixed in the glow of their boob-tubes reasured that all the lies they believe are true.
"Now it's nasty on both sides, but once you have an organized funnel of money going in to pay character assassins, then you can't have your candidate stand there and say oh, we're not going to do that."

Spin-boy might want to have a chat with the Not Swift Wing-nuts of the previous post, Sean (the lieing weasel) Hannity, Pat (pretend christian) Robertson, Rush(piillpopper) Limbaugh and some others. Enquiring minds want to know; who the hell is getting their moral guidance from these liberty hating neo-fascists.

A little rebellion now is a good thing.

McCain condemns anti-Kerry ads, calls on White House to follow suit
Republican Sen. John McCain, a former prisoner of war in Vietnam, called an ad criticizing John Kerry's military service "dishonest and dishonorable" and urged the White House on Thursday to condemn it as well.

The Kerry campaign has denounced the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, saying none of the men in the ad served on the boat that Kerry commanded. Three veterans on Kerry's boat that day -- Jim Rassmann, who says Kerry saved his life, Gene Thorson and Del Sandusky, the driver on Kerry's boat, said the group was lying.

They say Kerry was injured, and Rassmann called the group's account "pure fabrication."

Pure fabrication? Thats never stopped the wing-nuts before and McCain's pleas for honor from these smear operatives that were trained under Nixon will go unanswered. These smear boat operatives love to swallow in the mud.
Read more at Smear Boat Veterans for Bush. Of course, if Bush/Cheney had any integrity at all they'd come out tomorrow and condemn these scumbags, but BushCo has been playing the smear game since he was first puppet of Texas. Old habits are hard to break. If bush stopped the smears, he'd have to run on his record and knows that under those conditions he'd never win.

Investigators Concluded Shelby Leaked Message
Specifically, Fox News chief political correspondent Carl Cameron confirmed to FBI investigators that Shelby verbally divulged the information to him during a June 19, 2002, interview, minutes after Shelby's committee had been given the information in a classified briefing, according to the sources, who declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the case.

Good ol boy and leaking girlie-man Richard Shelby was having a little gossip exchange with reporter wannabe Carl Cameron from Fox. Just a couple of the girls getting together to discuss what the ultra secretive NSA said that day. No problem, Shelby says he's done nothing wrong, Carl says he's done nothing wrong, the Republican Senate says they don't see the harm. Why do Republicans hate America.

The Kerry I Know
So he's not Mr. Charisma. But he has courage, judgment, and intellect. Imagine that!
By Thomas Oliphant

Clinton Promotes Book on 'Late Show'
The Big Dog was on Letterman. If he was on the ticket I'd vote for him again. Smarter and with more insights then ever. A third term of Clinton working his usual 12 hour days, he might be able to straighten out all the garbage the AWOL alcoholic cheerleader has gotten America and the world into.
When asked whether the economy or the war in Iraq (news - web sites) would be the deciding issue in the presidential election, Clinton replied, "I think the security question is a threshold question.

"I believe if the voters can get it fixed in their mind that they can trust Sen. Kerry to fight the war against terror and keep us safe at home, that it's more likely than not he will win, because after 9-11 the Bush administration went way to the right on domestic policy."

The question is, how did Bush, with the world's best trained military blow it in Afghanistan and Iraq, while Iran continues with its nuclear development program and still has more links to terrorism then Iraq ever had. The voters need to decide if Bush can spell. Iran...Iraq. Iran...Iraq. Very close. I'm not aware of all the side effects of cocaine and alcohol addiction, maybe Bush just became dyslexic.

$1.9 Billion of Iraq's Money Goes to U.S. Contractors.
Kellogg Brown & Root Inc., a subsidiary of Halliburton, was paid $1.66 billion from the Iraqi money, primarily to cover the cost of importing fuel from Kuwait. The job was tacked on to a no-bid contract that was the subject of several investigations after allegations surfaced that a subcontractor for Houston-based KBR overcharged by as much as $61 million for the fuel.

Remember Senator Tom Daschle's speech,
And it doesn’t make sense to them that we’re paying over $2 for gasoline at home, while American taxpayers are funding nickel-a-gallon gas in Iraq.

The War on Civil Liberties: How Bush and Ashcroft Have Dismantled the Bill of Rights

Via Laura Rozen at War and Piece
Iraq Funds Are Focus of 27 Criminal Inquiries
In one case, a senior U.S. advisor "manipulated" the contracting system to award a $7.2-million security contract. The contract was later voided and the money returned.

In another incident, a contractor billed $3.3 million for nonexistent personnel working on an oil pipeline repair contract. A security contractor guarding the pipeline overcharged the CPA by $20,000. Both incidents are under criminal investigation.

In another example, a military assistant to a Pentagon employee gambled away part of a $40,000 grant issued to help coach an Iraqi sports team, the report found.

Besides the more than two dozen criminal cases under investigation by the inspector general, about 35 other matters have been referred to other U.S. agencies for further investigation, said James Mitchell, an inspector general spokesman.

Laura ends her post with," Just like Texas, we guess. The values of Enron and Halliburton now at work in Iraq."
I can't decide if we're ethically reverted back to the days of Ronnie Reagan or Herbert Hoover. Four more years of this kind of garbage and we'll be ready for another revolution in the name of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for those of us not of the republican elite..

Josh Marshall on developments in the Niger uranium story.
What’s long been known about the Niger documents is that an Italian ‘security consultant’ tried to sell them to an Italian journalist named Elisabetta Burba. Burba’s editor at Panorama, in turn, instructed her to take them to the US Embassy in Rome. That is how they came into the hands of the American government.

BUSH BLOCKS MEDICAL VICTIMS -- In a sharp U-turn from the hands-off approach of previous presidential administrations
Among the biggest beneficiaries of the new anti-consumer move by the Bush White House are makers of major prescription medications implicated in suicides by teens and adults. The Bush Justice Department is making sure that the people who suffer through those needless tragedies are unable to hold the responsible companies responsible accountable.

The three threats

Thomas Jefferson’s vision of America was quite straightforward. In its simplest form, he saw a society where people were first, and institutions were second.

In his day, Jefferson saw three agencies that were threats to humans’ Natural Rights. They were:

Governments (particularly in the form of kingdoms and elites like the Federalists)

Organized religions (he re-wrote the New Testament to take out all the “miracles” so that in “The Jefferson Bible” Jesus became a proponent of God-given Natural Rights),

Commercial monopolies and the “pseudo aristoi” (pseudo aristocracy) in the form of extremely wealthy individuals and overly powerful corporations.

All institutions, in Jefferson’s view, must be subordinate to the humans that created them, including governments, religious institutions, and corporations.

Things have changed, and while there's no turning back, for Bush and the neocons to totally turn their back on the transendant ideals that should still dominate our appraoch to culture and the economy, is a dangerous assault on democracy. Jefferson wanted to protect people, Bush wants to overly protect corporations.
